Government of Yukon Picks Fort Modular for New Mobile Trailers
Fort Modular Heads North! Yukon here we come! The Highways and Public Works department of the Government of Yukon hired Fort Modular to supply several new 8 x 14 mobile trailers to use as Geotechnical Laboratories along 4,821 kilometres of the Yukon's roads and highways.
These brand new double-axle trailers have been custom-designed for the Yukon Government to accommodate the demanding needs of a laboratory with the versatility and mobility of a trailer. Each mobile trailer includes galvanized counters for testing, storage cabinetry, sink, a laboratory oven, and a mechanical shaker for sieve analysis. The Yukon Highways and Public Works Department will tow these mobile trailers to multiple and remote sites for testing soils, water samples, and asphalt.
A unique aspect of this project was that each building had to obtain a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), so that the buildings could be insured and hitched onto a Yukon Government three-quarter ton truck, instead of the typical tow truck.
Other than a double-axle and tow hitch, additional features of these trailers included large propane tanks, electrical heat and wiring, a collapsable metal staircase, a metal door with locks, two windows, and metal exterior cladding in the Yukon Government’s selected colours.
Fort Modular won the bid for this project for its technical ability, delivery timeline, and low costs. In fact, the Government of Yukon was so pleased with the delivery of their first three units that they awarded Fort Modular with another contract to build three more — for a new total of six mobile trailers.
Fort Modular principal, Bryan DePedrina, says “These buildings had very specific requirements that not every modular manufacturer would be able or willing to do. Fort Modular is one of the few modular suppliers who has the talent, dedication and attentiveness to achieve such exacting project requirements.”
“This project is a good example of Fort Modular meeting exacting requirements in a tight timeline and at the lowest price."
