Project Overview
Fort Modular has been recently awarded Design-Build contracts for three permanent modular expansions in the Lower Mainland. These pilot projects are funded by the Ministry of Education & Childcare and have a unique approach—the classrooms expansions are being built to match the existing schools, rather than a typical portable classroom.
Modular construction was chosen because of how quickly it can meet the urges need for school space in the community and how the construction process enables a reduced on-site schedule to greatly minimize disruptions like noise, parking, and safety.
These modular school additions are fully code compliant, with a building life expectancy equal to traditional construction.
Key features on the Langley school expansion include:
- 2 stories, designed to match the existing school, including interior and exterior finishes.
- 6 classrooms, washrooms on each floor, and staff offices, also finished to match the existing school.
- Interconnected fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and utilities.
- Concrete foundation.
- Exceeds code requirements for accessibility, including a lift between floors.
- Mechanical equipment, DDC controls, and upgraded air filtration systems.
- A covered breezeway on the upper floor connecting to the existing school.
- Fast-tracked delivery, with occupancy for August 2024, including timelines for collecting and incorporating owner’s requirements, design reviews, and municipal permitting.
